Final Project Create a communicative functional environment in 3D space

Students are required to create a set design for a promotional event.  The theme of the event can be a live performance, exhibition, product/Service promotion, or other specific messages.  A sequence will be rendered from a moving camera as display previsualization.

Aims
  1. To analyze the key concepts and techniques for the creation of 3D animation;
  2. To construct scenes and objects by using industry-standard software;
  3. To demonstrate the origins of ideas by referencing sources used in work.
Requirements
  1. Students are required to design a scene and built it as a 3D environment.
  2. A QuickTime movie (.mov) of the scene with camera movement rendered in 720(w) x 576(h) pixel, time duration should not less than 10 secs.
    * Compressor: H.264 in ‘Best’ quality, frame rate 25 per second.
  3. At least three rendered images in 3508px x 2480px to show the details of model and mapping. Details of design can be featured by close-up renders.
  4. An accessible link of research, concept sketches, idea development, floor plan and all production files (3ds max file and its related mapping files) should be shown in PPT
  5. The final film should be uploaded to YouTube and the video link to be shown in PPT
  6. Students are required to have PowerPoint presentation of their works which showing the whole process of production.
  7. The PPT with links of video and work should be uploaded to Blackboard.
Assessment Weighting
  1. Research & idea development 20%
  2. Technical competency 80%
    • Animation & rendering 20%
    • Modelling & mapping 60%
